Chateau de la Barné.

Experience the gracious hospitality of French aristocracy and their douceur de vivre delaring a sojourn in an authentic Loire Valley castle

An experience of a lifetime : 5 to 9 days immersion into French history and culture as private guests of Comte and Comtesse de Vanssay, in their elegant château in the Loire Valley, owned by the family since the 14th century.

The hidden secret of the smaller Loir Valley’s picturesque countryside, Romanesque churches, their unique X11th century murals, the medieval town of Le Mans, Chartres cathedral and a visit to the famous Loire valley Chateaux and some private one not open to the public. Immersion into French history and architecture of Medieval Christianity, through the 100 year war and into the Renaissance, along with the discovery of various Loir and Loire vineyards, cellars and wines

Elegance and authenticity meet with comfort and modernity in this elegant home surround by XV1th century dry moat fortification, with its’ own chapel, flower gardens, fountains and pond. Groups of 18 guests can comfortable occupy all the bedrooms and suites, each sumptuously and individelaally decorated with beautiful period antiques.

The grand salon, decorated in 1778 for the marriage of the Marquis de Vanssay, and adorned with an ornate chandelier, ancestral portraits and magnificent antiques, transmits a quiet air of history; the salon rose, built in the XV1th century, combines cosiness by the fire with beautiful furnishings. Moving both back and forward in time, the X1Vth century fireplace with the former well and monumental heath now houses a bar, satellite TV and billiard. In the great dining room, masterpiece of the XV111th century with its’ imposing dresser, 4 course candlelit dinners accompanied by a special selection of wines are hosted three times a week.

There are plenty of great reasons to book a holiday at the Chateau De La Barne, here are just a few:

This Chateau was named one of the 50 best hotels in the world in their 2011 review.

"The de Vanssay family has occupied the honey-stoned chateau since the 15th century. The present, 20th count and his Anglo-American countess welcome you as if all those centuries have been building up to your arrival. There’s a convivial voluptuousness about the public rooms and bedrooms, all restored in the brightest possible period style. Stateliness is softened by civilised gaiety – notably at dinner with the hosts. Outside, the chateau grounds stretch for ever. Beyond them, the Loire Valley."
